Return to Normalcy?

Despite still being in a pandemic, we have had a slight return to normalcy in our personal lives. It’s actually a new normal. Mike and I are both back at work. Clayton is back in daycare. We are getting settled in our new house and our new routines. It has been nice.

We have been super busy juggling our new normal while trying to do as much work on the house as possible. Our priority has been getting Clayton’s room done. With the exception of hemming his curtains (bottom seam ripped) and replacing his bedroom door, we are pretty much done.

His room and closet got fresh paint, new trim and baseboards, new outlets and switches, and we did a little DIY project on his closet doors to give those old hollow core doors a facelift.

Here’s the before and after:

It was just very beige and very dirty looking before. The walls and baseboards were dusty and covered in cobwebs.

It feels so nice to have one room in the house complete. Eventually we want to replace the carpet in his room but it’s not in terrible shape and he’s constantly walking through the house with muddy hands and feet or spilling milk on it, etc. It’s probably best that we stuck with the old carpet for now. Gotta save some projects for later.

It’s definitely my favorite room in the house right now. It feels so fresh and clean. And having the decorations up makes me feel slightly more settled.

We have 2 bathrooms and 2 more bedrooms to update. Work starts on our master bathroom (which is basically unusable at this point due to some plumbing issues) in a couple of weeks.

Despite going to work/school and working on the house, we make sure to spend some time outside enjoying where we live. We’ve done some family bike rides. We’ve played in the river. We’ve just played in the front yard and street a lot!

We are so thankful and so blessed. We are soaking up every second of this crazy beautiful life we’ve been given.
