Spring Break During A Pandemic

Well, spring break wasn’t what we planned this year but that’s probably true for almost everyone. Unless your spring break plans were to stay home and have no contact with anyone, it’s likely that your plans got changed. We were supposed to go to Maui.  That obviously didn’t happen.

I should’ve been devastated that our trip to Maui got cancelled but I wasn’t. It didn’t bother me at all. I was really surprised. But I think it’s because people are getting really sick... so sick they are dying. And I am healthy. And the people I love and care about most are healthy. And staying home with my favorite people is the LEAST I can do to try and help stop this sickness from spreading.

If nothing else, this pandemic has given me some new perspective. It has reminded me of what’s really important. It has given me a new level of respect for custodians, grocery workers, mailmen and women etc. And though I thought I couldn’t respect doctors and nurses any more than I already did, it turns out that I’ve discovered a deeper level of respect for them too. No doubt their lives will never be the same after this. I honestly hope none of our lives are the same after this. I hope we all have more respect and kindness toward each other than before this pandemic started. And I hope we don’t lose those feelings toward each other any time soon!

Anyway, we enjoyed a restful spring break at home with a couple of attempts at getting out of the house while interacting with as few people as possible!  We really tried to stay home as much as possible but getting out and exploring is good for my mental health so we tried to find a balance.

Here’s a recap of our spring break adventures:

We went to Boulder Lodge at Heavenly a couple of times  just to stretch our legs in the empty parking lot!

We drove out to the Carson river in Gardnerville for a picnic lunch in the back of Mike’s truck.

We hiked to Skunk Harbor. In over 7 years of living in Tahoe, I can’t believe we’ve never done this hike before! It is beautiful. It is everything we love about Tahoe. The pictures will absolutely not do it justice. And we had the place to ourselves!  We passed a few people on the hike out but our time at the beach was JUST US!  It was amazing!

We had a picnic lunch on the beach and the hike was easy! Awesome day!

We spent the rest of our time playing on our deck at home. Even though we tried to stay home a lot, we also made sure to try to get outside for some fresh air every day! Mike made a sandbox for Clayton to play in because he loved playing in the sand at the beach.  Clayton figured out how to get in and out of his little car by himself. And we resorted to brooms as toys!

Mike and I also took turns going on a mountain bike ride for some fresh air and exercise. Unfortunately, the trail was pretty busy... probably because it’s the only area around here not officially closed and people NEED outdoor recreation for their sanity!  But, it was good to get out and everyone did their best to keep their distance.

Given our weird circumstances, this spring break was absolutely amazing!  I look forward to visiting Maui one day but I am so grateful for this relaxing week in this amazing place and I praise God for my blessings more now than I ever have before!

Stay well!

Easter in Quarantine

Well, we are coming up on 1 month of “social isolation.”  Some days it’s pretty easy and other days are a bit harder. Despite it all, I am constantly grateful for all that we have during this uncertain time. I am counting our blessings daily.

Today is Easter Sunday and I watched church online while still in my jammies. As nice as that was, I missed having to put on real clothes to go to church.  The message I took away from the sermon today is that Jesus is the only thing I truly need and literally no one can take that away from me.  How fantastic is that?

Here’s a glimpse at our past week:

SKINNED UP HEAVENLY...
PROBABLY FOR THE LAST TIME BECAUSE THEY
ROPED OFF THE ACCESS TO THE MOUNTAIN
THE NEXT DAY

THE TREES WERE BEAUTIFUL!

WE PLAYED OUTSIDE A LOT

WE WENT FOR A FAMILY BIKERIDE

THE EASTER BUNNY CAME! YAY!

We hope that wherever you are, you are happy and healthy and that you remember what this Easter holiday is really all about!!!
